What is the typical length of a travel RN assignment?
Answer:
Assignment length is usually 8-13 weeks, nurses are often asked to extend there assignment and many nurses have been known to stay at a hospital for over a year. We offer options and flexibility.

How long must I commit to working a travel nursing assignment with SJHS?
Answer:
SJHS travel nurse assignments usually require an 8 week commit. Assignments usually range from 8-13 weeks in length and usually give the nurse the opportunity to extend their assignment. Occasionally we do have 4 week assignments. You will need to sign an Agreement Letter for the assignment you work.

Answer:
Yes. We have travel nursing positions available in many different specialty areas. In most cases, we can match your request.

Question:
How many hours per week will I work?
Answer:
We guarantee either 36 or 48 hours per week depending on the facility you work at. This often allows you to earn extra money through overtime. If the hospital cancels your shift, SJHS guarantees, we will pay you for 36 or 48 hours.

What do I need to bring to my assignment?
Answer:
You will need to have a copy of your complete file with you. You'll need to bring copies of your CPR card and your current licenses. Also, we recommend that you bring a credit card (or debit card), calling card or cell phone and at least 5 sets of scrubs with you.

Question:
How do I start my travel nursing career with SJHS?
Answer:
You need at least one year experience in the last two years and must hold a current RN license. Also, you will need to complete all of the SJHS application requirements.

Question:
What happens after I submit my application?
Answer:
Once we receive your completed application, a SJHS representative will call you. They will assess your traveling and clinical preferences, and review all travel RN jobs suitable to your interest and qualifications. You recruiter will submit your profile to the facilities that you have chosen. It is our request that the facility review your file as soon as possible because we know that you are ready to work. Once you accept a position, we will send you all the necessary documents to get started on your travel nursing job. A Housing and Travel representative will then contact you concerning your travel arrangements.

Question:
Can my spouse or dependents receive benefits?
Answer:
Yes, you may add eligible dependents to our group plan. All you need to do is complete the necessary paperwork and pay the monthly premium.

Do you have a 401(k) plan?
Answer:
Yes. From the first day on your assignment, you are eligible for our great 401(k) plan. SJHS will match 100% of contributions up to the first 3% of compensation.

Question:
What's the definition of overtime?
Answer:
Overtime is time-and-a-half pay after 40 hours worked. California has specific overtime laws that pay overtime after 8 hours worked. Ask your recruiter for details.

Question:
How do I get my paycheck if I am on an assignment?
Answer:
All payroll and reimbursements expenses are paid to you by "Direct Deposit". This means every paycheck is wired directly into your bank account at no charge to you. You have immediate access to your funds no matter where or when you need them.

Question:
Does SJHS offer referral bonuses for bringing new nurses?
Answer:
Yes, we offer referral bonuses for every nurse you refer who is not in our current database and completes a SJHS assignment. Ask you recruiter for details.

Do you offer license reimbursement?
Answer:
Yes. When you complete your assignment, send us a copy of your permanent license along with your proof of payment and we will reimburse you for your license fee.

Travel and Housing:


Question:
Does SJHS provide reimbursement for transportation?
Answer:
Yes. For ground transportation SJHS calculates mileage reimbursement for driving to your assignment, this is a pre-determined mileage allowance based on each individual assignment. When leaving your assignment the return portion will also be paid in payroll. This is a non-taxed reimbursement. When you fly to your assignment, your ground transportation expenses from the airport to the hotel/apartment will be paid in your first paycheck.

If you choose to fly to an assignment, SJHS will make all flight arrangements, so you will not need to be reimbursed.

Question:
If I choose, can I provide my own housing while on my travel nursing assignment?
Answer:
Yes, if you would like and if the facility agrees, we will pay you a housing allowance. We will pay a pre-determined housing allowance based on the cost of living in each assignment.

Question:
Can I bring my pets with me on my travel nursing assignment?
Answer:
You are allowed to bring your pets to an assignments, but only if you provide your own housing. The housing allowance may not apply to some of the travel RN positions, so check with your recruiter. There may be an extra charge or deposit (at your expense), so check with your recruiter before traveling.
